Our current topic

Each term we focus on key skills to help the children reach the Early Learning Goals (ELG) by the end of their year in Reception. The key skills are taught through whole class topics which are inspired by the children's interests, special times of the year and events.

We begin by finding out all about OURSELVES and our emotions. We will read 'The Colour Monster' and 'The Colour Monster goes to school' to discover what emotions we may feel. We will be finding out about our school and settling into our daily routines.

In Reception we LOVE many things - here are some of the things we LOVE!

We love learning - we understand that play is a vital ingredient! Through play children make progress with their language, creativity, social skills, emotional well-being and cognitive development. Our ever-developing indoor and outdoor provision areas allow children to practice their new ideas, take risks, show imagination and begin to solve problems on their own or with friends.

We love reading - we read stories as a class every day. We are working really hard to learn all our sounds and blend words together.

Please READ everyday with your child!

We love our parents - our parents are so important to our learning! It is very important that they read with us every day and keep up to date with the Tapestry app to see what we are doing.

Online Phonics Workshop.

If you are looking to support your child with their reading then please watch the Online Phonics Workshop below from a previous year. This will give you an overall guide to what phonics is, some key rules of phonics and simple strategies to help your child at home. Alternatively, you can talk a look at the power point  by clicking here - Phonics Power Point .

We would love to invite you into school for an in person Phonics workshop on Tuesday 18th October 2022 at 9am. More details to follow in coming week's newsletter.
