Our topics this term...
Each term we focus on key skills to help the children reach the Early Learning Goals (ELG) by the end of their year in Reception. The key skills are taught through whole class topics which are inspired by the children's interests, special times of the year and events.
We have started the year looking at The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas to investigate our emotions and how we feel in differnt situations. We are creating Monster Art and collages, discussing how to be good friends and looking after our classroom environment. Check back soon to see out art and busy classroom soon!
We have been using our imagination considering what a stick and a box could be, inspired by Not a Stick and Not a Box by Antoinette Portis.
We had magical wands and vacuum cleaners using our sticks that we found in the field. We explored joining boxes, tubes and other junk modelling to make our box designs. These included a lion and a train. Christmas is always a busy part of the year. We will be learning songs for our upcoming nativity performance called Away in Manger, writing letters to Santa and finding out about the first Christmas. Amongst all of this we have had science day, exploring light and dark, learning about Diwali, the festival of lights and enjoying toasting marshmallows on our school bonfire. Yum yum!
In Reception we LOVE many things - here are some of the things we LOVE!
We love learning - we understand that play is a vital ingredient! Through play children make progress with their language, creativity, social skills, emotional well-being and cognitive development. Our ever-developing indoor and outdoor provision areas allow children to practice their new ideas, take risks, show imagination and begin to solve problems on their own or with friends.
We love reading - we read stories as a class every day. We are working really hard to learn all our sounds and blend words together.
Please READ everyday with your child!
We love our parents - our parents are so important to our learning! It is very important that they read with us every day and keep up to date with the Tapestry app to see what we are doing.
Little Wandle is our chosen government approved scheme for teaching phonics and early literacy. There is a wealth of information and guidance about how to support your child with their reading on their website.

Tapestry is used througout the year to record wow moments in your child's learning. You can add achievements from home which we can share and celebrate in school too.
