Our current topic

Each term we focus on key skills to help the children reach the Early Learning Goals (ELG) by the end of their year in Reception. The key skills are taught through whole class topics which are inspired by the children's interests, special times of the year and events.

Summer Term

Traditional Tales and Superheroes

This term we will be looking at a range of traditional tales including Jack and the Beanstalk and The Gingerbread Man, to name a few. We hope to inspire story telling and writing. We have our very own theatre role play where the children are already enjoying dressing up as characters to retell the tales, making tickets and selling snacks. We will be moving on to find out above day to day superheroes, those people who help us such as the police, doctors and nurses and firefighters. With such a busy term ahead of us we will share our weekly updates in our newsletters. Watch out for important dates such as sports day and a trip to the local church very soon.

In Reception we LOVE many things - here are some of the things we LOVE!

We love learning - we understand that play is a vital ingredient! Through play children make progress with their language, creativity, social skills, emotional well-being and cognitive development. Our ever-developing indoor and outdoor provision areas allow children to practice their new ideas, take risks, show imagination and begin to solve problems on their own or with friends.

We love reading - we read stories as a class every day. We are working really hard to learn all our sounds and blend words together.

Please READ everyday with your child!

We love our parents - our parents are so important to our learning! It is very important that they read with us every day and keep up to date with the Tapestry app to see what we are doing.

Little Wandle is our chosen government approved scheme for teaching phonics and early literacy. There is a wealth of information and guidance about how to support your child with their reading on their website.
