Our current topic
Each term we focus on key skills to help the children reach the Early Learning Goals (ELG) by the end of their year in Reception. The key skills are taught through whole class topics which are inspired by the children's interests, special times of the year and events.
We begin by finding out all about OURSELVES and our emotions. We will read 'The Colour Monster' and 'The Colour Monster goes to school' to discover what emotions we may feel. We will be finding out about our school and settling into our daily routines.
Autumn is all around us! We will be looking for signs of Autumn and creating lots of art using leaves, conkers and autumnal colours. We will find out why we celebrate Harvest and take part in our whole school Harvest service at church on Thursday 20th October.
First we celebrated Diwali by creating a Diwali celebration house in our role play area. We made tasty, traditional sweets and made Diva lamps from salt dough.
As we are practising our nativity performance, we also learnt about the First Christmas that Christians believe occurred over 2000 years ago. We are enjoying dressing up as the characters and retelling the story.
We learnt to retell the story Dear Santa by Rod Campbell. Check out the video below of our story telling.
We posted letters to Santa and visited the local park. In the EYFS curriculum we explore a range of climbing and moving skills. It was good fun climbing, spinning, sliding, swinging and having fun together. The children all enjoyed the experience and walked safely alongside the roadside.
In Reception we LOVE many things - here are some of the things we LOVE!
We love learning - we understand that play is a vital ingredient! Through play children make progress with their language, creativity, social skills, emotional well-being and cognitive development. Our ever-developing indoor and outdoor provision areas allow children to practice their new ideas, take risks, show imagination and begin to solve problems on their own or with friends.
We love reading - we read stories as a class every day. We are working really hard to learn all our sounds and blend words together.
Please READ everyday with your child!
We love our parents - our parents are so important to our learning! It is very important that they read with us every day and keep up to date with the Tapestry app to see what we are doing.
Online Phonics Workshop.
If you are looking to support your child with their reading then please watch the Online Phonics Workshop below from a previous year. This will give you an overall guide to what phonics is, some key rules of phonics and simple strategies to help your child at home.
Little Wandle is our chosen government approved scheme for teaching phonics and early literacy. There is a wealth of information and guidance about how to support your child with their reading on their website.
