Our current topic

Each term we focus on key skills to help the children reach the Early Learning Goals (ELG) by the end of their year in Reception. The key skills are taught through whole class topics which are inspired by the children's interests, special times of the year and events.

Spring Term

Our Amazing World

This term we will be looking at Winter and the changes we see such as no leaves on the trees and what clothing we need to keep warm on chilly days. We will explore outer space and the exciting journeys into the night with 'Whatever Next.' We are looking forward to finding out about the world thousands of years ago in the time of dinosaurs. We have many dino-tastic fun things to learn and ways to discover about fossils, carnivores and herbivores and explore their habitat. The Chinese New year, or Lunar year celebrations, will happen just before half term, as will Shrove Tuesday and the beginning of Lent. These are celebrations from around our amazing world. What do you do to celebrate them?

In Reception we LOVE many things - here are some of the things we LOVE!

We love learning - we understand that play is a vital ingredient! Through play children make progress with their language, creativity, social skills, emotional well-being and cognitive development. Our ever-developing indoor and outdoor provision areas allow children to practice their new ideas, take risks, show imagination and begin to solve problems on their own or with friends.

We love reading - we read stories as a class every day. We are working really hard to learn all our sounds and blend words together.

Please READ everyday with your child!

We love our parents - our parents are so important to our learning! It is very important that they read with us every day and keep up to date with the Tapestry app to see what we are doing.

Little Wandle is our chosen government approved scheme for teaching phonics and early literacy. There is a wealth of information and guidance about how to support your child with their reading on their website.
