Our topics this term...
Each term we focus on key skills to help the children reach the Early Learning Goals (ELG) by the end of their year in Reception. The key skills are taught through whole class topics which are inspired by the children's interests, special times of the year and events.
AUTUMN TERM
We are excited to get to know each and every new child in Reception. During Autumn term we learn so much through our play at Child Initiated Learning (ChIL) times. We will find out what each child likes and encourage developing positive relationships through these activities. We will focus on our feelings, emotions and how to interact with others in our setting. We are all responsible for our learning and environment, so developing and following routines will be essential. We will read a wide range of books such as The Colour Monster, The Colour Monster Goes to School and Super Duper You!
Phonics is the way we teach early reading and writing. There will be a phonics workshop for parents at the end of September (watch this space for details). There will be daily phonics lssons throughout the year and you will be amazed at how much your child will learn in just one term!
In Reception we LOVE many things - here are some of the things we LOVE!
We love learning - we understand that play is a vital ingredient! Through play children make progress with their language, creativity, social skills, emotional well-being and cognitive development. Our ever-developing indoor and outdoor provision areas allow children to practice their new ideas, take risks, show imagination and begin to solve problems on their own or with friends.
We love reading - we read stories as a class every day. We are working really hard to learn all our sounds and blend words together.
Please READ everyday with your child!
We love our parents - our parents are so important to our learning! It is very important that they read with us every day and keep up to date with the Tapestry app to see what we are doing.
Little Wandle is our chosen government approved scheme for teaching phonics and early literacy. There is a wealth of information and guidance about how to support your child with their reading on their website.

Tapestry is used througout the year to record wow moments in your child's learning. You can add achievements from home which we can share and celebrate in school too.
