Parent and Carer Updates 2021-2022

October 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been a busy and productive first half term in school.  Children in all year groups have been applying themselves well to their learning, leading to a calm and focused environment. We are grateful to have been consistently in school, which has allowed the pupils to make good progress across the board. This term the children enjoyed taking part in our recycling enrichment day, where they learnt the importance of taking care of the planet and practical ways in which they can make a positive impact. We were pleased to come second in the Walkern Scarecrow Competition with our eco-conscious scarecrow 'Reece-Cycles'. Congratulations to Walkern Pre-School (aka our arch rivals) who came first. Today we will be celebrating Harvest in the school hall, some of the songs we are celebrating with will be available to view on the class pages and the gallery.

For anyone who was interested in the Parent/Carer Phonics Workshop for Reception and Year One but were unable to make it, an online version is now available on the Reception class page. This will give you an overview of phonics and how to help your child with their reading.

Notes for next term -

Friday 5th November - Bonfire Day - NO UNIFORM

We will be having a bonfire and toasting marshmallows. Children need to come to school in warm, comfortable clothes and bring wellies.

Winter P.E kits

Children need to include tracksuit bottoms or leggings and a warm top in their P.E kit for outdoor lessons. This can be something from their existing wardrobe and does not need to be in the school colours. Please make sure everything is clearly labelled.

Pick Up & Drop Off

Please be considerate to the neighbours of the school and ensure when you are parked local area you turn your engines off.

We hope you have a restful half term holidays. We're looking forward to a busy Christmas term, key dates can be found in the calendar.

All the best,

Mr Hall

September 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to new academic year at Walkern. We have had a great start to the  Autumn term and it is lovely to have all the children back with us. As with government guidelines, we are no longer operating in bubbles which means that all children can play together at break time and we are resuming whole school assemblies on Mondays and Fridays. We are pleased to be getting back to a normal approach to school, this includes, but is not limited to,  a whole-school trip to the panto, the return of the highly anticipated Reception and Year 1 Nativity and our yearly Bed Time Story session!

Our Teachers are continuing to work hard to ensure that they are planning a broad and balanced curriculum to not only engage the children but support them in moving forward with their learning. Please take a look at the class pages for an overview of what your child will be learning this term. This term we will enjoy two whole-school enrichment days. Firstly, recycling day on Friday 24th September and then, a bonfire celebration on Friday 5th November.

We do ask that our community remains mindful of the ongoing Covid situation. If your child has any Covid symptoms then please ensure they take a PCR test to safeguard the rest of the school. If in any doubt then please contact the school office for guidance.

All the best,

Mr Hall
